Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-10

These terms govern your use of Chatocalypse ("the service"). The service is operated by an independent developer ("we", "us") and is currently in public beta. By signing in or using the relay, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

1. What the service is

Chatocalypse hosts (a) a relay that bridges live events from streaming platforms (Twitch, TikTok, and others we may add) to an overlay you embed in OBS, Streamlabs, or TikTok Live Studio, and (b) the desktop app that runs on your stream PC and connects to your game (currently Minecraft via a Fabric mod). Some of those things run on Cloudflare; some run on your machine. Your local game and your viewers' chat platforms remain your responsibility.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old (or older where required by your jurisdiction) to create an account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your stream key secret. Anyone with your stream key can publish events to your relay channel as if they were you. Rotate it from the dashboard if you suspect leakage.
  • You are responsible for the security of your Twitch, TikTok, email, and any other accounts you connect.
  • One account per person, generally — you can connect multiple platforms to a single account, but don't create duplicate accounts to evade limits or moderation.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service to harass, threaten, dox, or stalk anyone — yourself, your viewers, or third parties.
  • Use the service to broadcast content that is illegal where you are or where your viewers are: child sexual abuse material, content inciting violence, content infringing someone else's intellectual property without permission, etc.
  • Attempt to break, overload, exploit, or reverse-engineer the service. Don't run automated load against the relay beyond what's needed for ordinary use.
  • Impersonate another person or platform, or misrepresent your affiliation with us.
  • Use the service to violate the terms of any platform you connect (Twitch ToS, TikTok ToS, etc.) — see §5.
  • Use the service to send unsolicited advertising or spam to your viewers via overlays or chat.
  • Resell access to the service without our written permission.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. We try to be proportionate (warning first, hard ban for egregious behavior or abuse of others), but we reserve the right to act immediately when needed.

4. Viewer-generated content

Live event traffic flows through our relay in real time but is not stored by us. Your viewers' chat messages, gift contents, and similar are delivered to your overlay and your game; we do not log or moderate them centrally.

Moderating your stream's chat is your responsibility — and usually the host platform's (Twitch/TikTok). If a viewer is abusing the trigger system to harass you, you can disable that trigger from the desktop app, ban the viewer on the upstream platform, or rotate your stream key to fully reset the relay channel.

5. Twitch, TikTok, and other platforms

When you connect Twitch, TikTok, or any other platform we add, you must comply with that platform's terms of service and developer policies in addition to these terms. In particular:

  • Don't use the service in ways that would violate the connected platform's rules (artificial engagement, circumventing bans, scraping, etc.).
  • For TikTok specifically: cloud-mode TikTok ingest only operates in modes the operator (us, or a self-hosted instance) explicitly enables. Our public service ships with cloud TikTok ingest set to disabled by default. We do not use unofficial reverse-engineered TikTok integrations in our public service.

We are not endorsed, sponsored, or affiliated with Twitch, TikTok, or any other platform unless we say so explicitly. Trademarks belong to their respective owners.

6. Beta status & availability

The service is in active development. We aim for high uptime but make no guarantees. Features may change, be removed, or behave unexpectedly. Scheduled maintenance happens without notice during beta. Cloud-relay outages will pause cloud overlays; the local desktop app continues to function on its own loopback URL.

7. Paid tiers (future)

The service is free during beta. We plan to introduce paid tiers (for higher relay bandwidth, more concurrent viewers, custom domains, etc.) in the future. When that happens, paid features will be clearly labeled, billing terms will be disclosed before charge, and existing free functionality at the time of your signup will not be paywalled retroactively without notice.

8. Intellectual property

The Chatocalypse code, design, branding, and documentation belong to us (or our contributors, under their respective licenses — see the GitHub repository for source-level licenses).

You retain ownership of any overlay configuration, custom CSS, and trigger configuration you create. You grant us a limited license to store and serve those configurations as necessary to operate the service for you. You can export or delete them at any time.

You retain ownership of your stream content. We do not record it; we do not redistribute it; we have no rights to it beyond what's needed to deliver real-time events to your overlay.

9. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, that it will be error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the service.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limitations; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the minimum the law allows.

11. Termination

You can terminate your use of the service at any time by signing out, disconnecting your linked platforms, and requesting account deletion (see the Privacy Policy, §11).

We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these terms, for legal or safety reasons, or because we discontinue a feature or the service entirely. We will give you reasonable notice when feasible. Sections 8–10, 13, and 14 survive termination.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new date at the top of this page and called out in our release notes. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law & disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service will be resolved on an individual basis (no class actions) in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your residence override this clause.
